Display & Gift

The art market often presents single prints as a photographer's greatest accomplishment, but a book, the publication of a work in its entirety, with its specific points of view and graphic design, also constitutes a work of art in itself.Alessandro Bertolotti has collected books on nudes for thirty years. His unrivalled collection allows us to explore the history of photographic creations, from the first academic snapshots all the way up to the most audacious avant-gardes. Organized chronologically, this work presents over 160 books, from the celebrated to the obscure, and includes all the photographers who made nudes famous: Germaine Krull, Man Ray, Hans Bellmer, Bill Brandt, Araki, Robert Mapplethorpe, Pierre Molinier, Jean Saudek, and Jean-Loup Sieff.A cultural analysis introduces each of this title's thirteen themes and each book is presented with its original cover and a selection of photographs laid out on double-page spreads. Consisting of over four hundred reproductions, "The Book of Nudes" is an important reference work for every amateur photographer. Paying tribute to the often innovative and ostentatious layout of these publications, this title is also a must-have for anyone passionate about graphic design and publishing.
