Description

Green Modern showcases design-conscious New Zealand houses that embrace a more sustainable way of living. Ranging from inner-city homes to remote retreats, each house demonstrates how thoughtful design and environmentally-responsive building techniques can work together to produce beautiful and ecologically sound living spaces. Part design inspiration, part practical guide, Green Modern offers examples of homes that adopt a wide variety of responses to enhance energy efficiency, environmental impact, health and comfort. They are 'smart', eco-conscious homes that champion style and sustainability in equal measure. Filled with beautiful color photographs and helpful floor plans, Green Modern is the ideal reference for anyone considering how to build or renovate a home in a more ecologically responsive way.

Author description

Claire McCall has written about architecture and home design, globally, for more than 15 years. Originally from South Africa, she immigrated to New Zealand in 1993, and has written for, and edited, a number of leading New Zealand lifestyle magazines, including Home New Zealand and Your Home & Garden. She has also contributed to Vogue Living and Green magazine in Australia, Town & Country in the US, House & Leisure in South Africa and Elle Decoration in the UK. She lives in what she calls an 'urban bach' in central Auckland, striving to transform its compact garden into a sanctuary for bees. Green Modern is her first architectural book.
